Personal Finance Training for Young Adults

In many of my articles, I focus on young adults as my target audience. By young adults, I generally mean people between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. Why target this group? Quite simply, time is on their side when it comes to saving for retirement, and because of this fact, small changes in their spending habits can make a big impact on their investing results due to compound interest. When these numbers jump out and “surprise” a person for the good, that person is more likely to take action to get their personal finances in order. Therefore, in this article I wish to provide basic personal finance training aimed directly at young adults, with the hope of positively impacting their financial futures.

Start a Roth IRA ASAP

Unlike a traditional IRA and 401k which are income tax deferred, the Roth IRA features contributions that are taxed in the year they are made, while gains and withdrawals are never taxed. Therefore, the best time to contribute to a Roth IRA is when your income is low. When are our incomes typically at their lowest point? While we are young adults, of course. As long as you have earned income, an individual can contribute to a Roth IRA up to the amount of his/her earned income or $4,000 (increases to $5,000 in 2008), whichever is less. For a married couple, both spouses can each contribute up to $4,000 for a total of $8,000 (increases to $10,000 in 2008). Think of it this way, some part-time workers don’t even pay income tax, due to their low income coupled with qualifying deductions. In such a case you could actually make Roth IRA contributions which would not be taxed, and the account would never be taxed. Pretty sweet deal!

Gradually Ramp Up Your Lifestyle Over Time

Some people make the mistake after graduating from college of buying a really expensive car, I guess as a reward to themselves for all of the hard work they put forth to earn their diploma. This is absolutely one of the worst, albeit most common, mistakes young adults make. Why? Because after buying a BMW at 22 years old, do you think we’ll buy a Honda or a Mercedes at 25? Of course, we’ll buy the Mercedes because we don’t want to go backwards on the “perceived” quality scale. The point is, it’s a good idea to hold back a little on the quality we demand as young adults because our taste will probably only get more expensive as we grow older. In other words, making a less expensive purchase as a young adult translates into a lifetime of less expensive purchases, even while steadily moving forward on the “perceived” quality scale throughout.

Base-Load Your Investment Accounts

Another trick to take advantage of while still a young adult is to base-load your investment accounts. By base-loading, I mean contributing a larger than normal amount to your accounts at the beginning of your investment career and little to none the rest of the way. This advice works great if you take advantage of it before you are married with kids and have a mortgage. Before you walk down the aisle and start a family, your expenses are typically low, so you are able to put some of your excess cash to work. That way when you do take the plunge, you can cut back or even eliminate investment contributions altogether, and it won’t even matter. For example, say at 22 years old you start contributing the maximum of $4,000 per year to a Roth IRA and continue until you are 30, at which time you decide to get married and start a family. Because running a household and raising a family can get expensive, you halt all contributions to your Roth IRA from this point forward. However, you allow the contributions you have already made to continue compounding. If we assume the Roth IRA compounds at 10% per year, how much will your account be worth when you reach 65? Surprise, nearly $1.3 million dollars! Pretty amazing.

Summary

Young adults have a distinct advantage over the rest of us because they still have the most valuable resource of all on their side – time. Making wise financial decisions early in life sets the stage for financial success during your retirement years. Hopefully, my simplistic personal finance training offered here will inspire young adults to take action now so they will be able to reap the benefits in the future.

Establishing Your Personal Finance Goals

Before you can start saving or investing for the future, you need to work out what your aims are. Only if you know what you are saving and investing for can you choose the best products to help you realise your goals. Otherwise, you're likely to end up with completely unsuitable personal finance products.

Some of the financial goals you have may include clearing your debts, buying a house, starting a pension or helping out your children.

Most people have short and long-term personal finance goals. In the short term you might want to buy a new car or pay for a summer holiday, while in the longer term you may be keen to build up savings for retirement. And, you may have more than just your own future to consider: If you have children or plan to have them at some stage, they may want go to university or need help getting on the housing ladder, and you need to plan to fulfil those personal finance goals as well.

Different personal finance goals require different investment vehicles so it's important that you work out what you want and then prioritise them. If you are investing for the long term for retirement, for example you should invest in equities because, historically, they produce the greatest returns over time.

However, they aren't suitable for short-term investment goals because they are extremely volatile the value of your shares may plummet just when you need the cash to buy your new car. But if you don't need the cash for many years you have plenty of notice as to when you need to sell your shares so can do so when you stand to make a profit. There may well have been times during the years you own them when you suffer losses at least on paper. But it doesn't matter as potential losses aren't realised unless you actually sell up.

How to Save Without Sacrificing

If you are saving for a holiday or new car, investing for the short term, stick to a savings account paying the highest rate of interest you can find. At least you are guaranteed to get your capital back, plus some return. You aren't risking your cash. You won't make the big returns you might have made on stocks and shares but at least you know there won't be any losses either.

At least you are guaranteed to get your capital back, plus some return: You aren't risking your cash. You won't make the big returns you might have made on stocks and shares but at least you know there won't be any losses either.

Creating a Personal Finance Emergency Fund

Before you consider investing for the longer term, you need to set up your own personal finance emergency or rainy day fund for contingencies that you can imagine but couldn't pay for out of your purse or wallet.

The fund should contain enough money to pay for events such as a sudden trip abroad if you have close family in distant lands, any domestic problem that wouldn't be covered by insurance, a major repair to a car over and above an insurance settlement, or a vet's bill not covered by insurance.

It may be prudent not to put your emergency fund money in an account that offers a higher rate of interest in return for restricted access such as not being able to get hold of your money for five years. The problems and penalties associated with getting your cash on short notice outweigh any extra-earning advantages.

An emergency cash reserve serves as reassurance so you can ride out investment bad times more easily. Know that you'll rarely be able to access investments in an emergency. You shouldn't be put in a position where you're forced to sell. And your credit card can be a temporary lifeline, giving you breathing space to re-organise longer-term investments when necessary.

Finance Personal Software Reviews

Financial experts agree that finance personal software can help you reduce "financial stress". Money budgeting helps you keep track of your expenses and income, plan wise money-saving strategies, gives you control over your money, peace of mind, and saves you time.

These budget software reviews provide information to help you decide which personal accounting software is better for your needs.

Mvelopes - uses an envelope budget system where you save part of your income periodically (by-weekly or monthly) to pay future bills and stay within your budget. You create spending categories called "envelopes" which you set up for your various expenses. Mvelopes focuses more on budgeting your money than most other finance personal software programs.

Their application is website-based, so you don't need to download any personal accounting software on your computer. This allows you to share software budgeting with another person, such as your spouse and this also causes less tech support problems. This envelope system includes features such as FREE online bill pay service, automatic monthly income allocation to your spending accounts, and links to more than 14 thousand financial institutions.

Summary: Mvelopes is particularly useful for people who travel frequently and want web access to their financial planning. Disadvantages: There is only one savings category, it has quarterly and yearly fees, and is more elaborate than other finance personal software systems, so it takes longer to learn.

You Need A Budget - By using their four sound financial principles, you'll never find yourself in financial trouble. Their finance personal software is user-friendly and allows you to import information from your bank, set up repeating expenses, offers unlimited user-defined categories, charts, and other reports. A great advantage is their automation, so you don't need to repeat data entry.

Setting up YNAB finance personal software is fast and easy and they offer great support such as online tutorials, a wiki, user forum, online user manual, a FAQ section, and FREE online coaching through webinars. After you set up your starting budget, you can easily import information from your banks, schedule payments and tasks, create charts, and other reports to organize your finances.

Summary: YNAB comes with 5 bonus spreadsheets, auto-suggest budgeting and The YNAB Way eBook FREE. Disadvantages: Currently is not available for Macs, though you can run it on an emulator.

Quicken Deluxe - combines data from your bank account, investments, and monthly bills into a single database so you can better organize your software budgeting. This finance personal software includes many solid tools to help you create your monthly budget, pay your debts, allocate regular savings, manage your investments and plan your retirement.

Their finance personal software is very good for tracking and analyzing your expenses and this is a big help at tax time. It provides you with comprehensive, searchable help topics even with no Internet connection. Quicken Deluxe offers access to most major banks so you can download your statements automatically online. You can set up automatic data downloads at a specific time each day; however you must close it to run scheduled updates.

Summary: Your impression of Quicken Deluxe finance personal software will depend on the compatibility between your bank (and other financial institutions) system, and Quicken's data access. Disadvantages: It has reported software bugs, no portfolio analysis, expensive phone support, and doesn't open during downloads.

Learning Personal Finance With Investment Clubs

If you are someone who would like to know more about investing, joining or starting an investment club can be a rewarding and educational experience. Many people feel more comfortable about learning about investing with other average folks when compared with talking to an "expert".

Is it a good fit for you?

If you have been putting off learning about investing and setting any money aside, the discipline of a club could be ideal. Many people join a club to have a group that they can talk to about investing and apply what they learn to their own portfolios. If you have $20-$50 a month to set aside and invest through a club, you might find membership is for you.

Even experienced investors use a club to gain information about stocks that they do not have the time to research. Many hands make light work. All members benefit from the work of other members. Work? Yes you need to contribute more that cash. Don't think that you can take a free ride. The pooled account may not be significant when compared to your 401(k) but everyone has a stake and needs to commit.

How Do These Things Start?

Groups of friends, neighbors or co-workers start talking about investing and find that a starting an investment club is the next step. Setting up a club takes some work but the National Association of Investors Corporation (NAIC) has all the information you need to get started.

How Do They Work

Successful investment clubs focus on learning as well as investing. Guest speakers, like a local broker or investment analyst, may be invited from time to time. Most people join a club to explore new ideas and discuss investing issues. In the early sessions of a club's life, education might be very introductory, covering how to read a balance sheet, an earnings report and the club's financials. Soon the club might be learning new ways to value stocks or discussing a book about Warren Buffett.

Clubs Are Work: Why Not Try a Money-Free Club?

Many clubs have fallen by the wayside when members realize that the time involved is significant. Often the treasurer feels this first. Because of this, groups that want to get started but are a bit intimidated at the paperwork, try a "money-free" club.

Some money-free clubs will focus on education only. Others will set up fantasy portfolios on a web site and buy and sell and do all the work, but with no real money in.

Advantages

• No monthly contributions.
• No need for a treasurer.
• No accounts to keep and taxes to pay.
• Great for people who are hesitant to commit to a regular club.

Disadvantages

• People often lose their discipline if they're not bound together by pooled money.
• Often people take a money-free club less seriously.
• It's less fun and exciting for some people, if there's no real money involved.

Personal Finance Budgeting

Planning a budget for your personal finance is very important to feeling secure and being financially stable especially in the current economic climate. It stands to reason that you should have some kind of monetary stash put away for a rainy day. A lot of people don't look at their personal finance until they get in trouble with credit and debt. At that time, it may be far-reaching and more difficult to get back on track. However, if you aspire to reach financial health, part of the process is to gather all the knowledge you would need to start planning your finances wisely.

Your first step to take is to find out what your exact expenses are for each month. These expenses will include your electric bill, phone bill, car payment, car insurance, credit card bills, mortgage or rent, cable bill, cell phone bill, college loan (if any), and other incidentals. Your incidental bills could include gas for your car, shopping, going out to dinner, nightly entertainment, groceries, and anything else that you consistently spend money on each month. Put all of these bills on a spreadsheet or create a specific journal to make your entries.

The next thing is to match your income against all these expenses and see what you can cut out or limit each month. You have to do this if you want to have some money each month to put aside in a savings account. I am sure you have heard about the concept "pay yourself first." What this means is that you should have a certain amount each week or each month to put aside in a specific account and you should not stray away from this habit. You are not breaking the bank, but steadily gaining momentum with your savings when you put money in each week or month. It will also give you a sense of security and balance. No one knows when disaster will strike, but one thing we know is that it will, so you have to be prepared for the worst.

Take control of your debt. Stop over spending. If you can't pay for something using cash, then this means that you are unable to afford it in the first place. Don't let your credit card put you in bondage. You will forever be a slave to the credit card companies that want to hold you hostage for years to come. Cut up some of the credit cards that you have and only keep one. When you have one, you have fewer options.

Track your spending. Take a little notebook with you to store or keep your receipts and make note of all your spending. You would be surprised that some of your spending is futile and unnecessary when you see it on paper. Before you go to the grocery store each week, write a list and take it with you and don't go to the store when you are hungry. If you follow these two steps, you will not do any kind of impulse shopping. You will spend wisely and only buy the things you really need.

You are in control of your financial destiny so be the dictator and do not let a financial institution tell you how to spend your money. The financial ball is now in your court.

Personal Finance Software Review of Quicken Product Offerings

In this article I would like to conduct a personal finance software review of the Quicken product offerings designed for personal use. There are several personal finance software products on the market that do wonderful jobs of helping families manage their finances, but I am most familiar with Quicken as I have been a user of its products for over eight years. I have been completely satisfied with the features Quicken provides and would like to review and compare the benefits that its product offerings deliver.

Quicken Starter Edition

Formerly known as Quicken Basic, the Quicken Starter Edition is an excellent solution for individuals who will be using personal finance software for the first time. The three main features the Quicken Starter Edition delivers are: (1) balancing of your checkbook electronically, (2) tracking how you spend your money by being able to categorize purchases, and (3) monitoring and updating all your investment and banking accounts in one place. It basically provides a “one-stop shop” for all of your personal finance concerns.

Quicken Deluxe

Although the Quicken Starter Edition is a fantastic product, I believe the average family considering a personal finance software product should start with Quicken Deluxe. The reason is that, in addition to offering all of the features of the Quicken Starter Edition, Quicken Deluxe provides the capability to download banking and investment account transactions automatically. This makes reconciling your checking account, as well as your other accounts, extremely simple. In addition, Quicken Deluxe allows you to create savings goals and track their progress, store statements and records electronically, and plan for a new home, a baby, or retirement. For most families, this is the best place to start.

Quicken Premier

For those families who manage their own investments and require additional tools to monitor and measure their progress, Quicken Premier is the perfect solution. Quicken Premier offers all of the wonderful features from Quicken Deluxe plus several others, including: (1) generating various investment performance reports, (2) analyzing and optimizing your portfolio with special tools, (3) generating Schedule A, B, and D tax reports, and (4) setting investment alerts to notify you when certain conditions are in place. A truly remarkable tool for the do-it-yourself investor!

Quicken Home & Business

The three software solutions above are all excellent choices, but if you own your own business, none of these will be sufficient for the additional monitoring and record keeping required of you. Enter Quicken Home and Business. Though not as powerful a solution as Intuit’s QuickBooks products, it is the perfect choice if you have a small business with no payroll requirements, or especially for a part time business. In addition to providing all of the wonderful features of Quicken Premier, Quicken Home and Business allows: (1) tracking and categorizing of both business and personal expenses, (2) creating customized estimates and invoices, (3) generating profit and loss reports, (4) tracking vehicle mileage and other Schedule C items, and (5) monitoring upcoming bills and unpaid invoices. If you are considering a small part-time business, this solution is perfect to get you started.

In conclusion, Quicken offers a wonderful lineup of products that are designed to meet the varying needs that different families require. This personal finance software review has aimed to provide you with a basic overview of each product to help you decide which solution would be most appropriate for your family. Hopefully this discussion convinces you of the incredible value personal finance software delivers to its users. I can only speak from personal experience.

Creating Your Own Personal Financial Report Quickly and Simply

The area of personal finance covers a broad variety of topics involving money which include areas such as budgeting, expenses, debt, saving, retirement and personal insurance among lots and lots of others. It can almost seem a little overwhelming for those of us without a good plan how to tackle it. Understanding how all of your incomes and expenses work together can lay the groundwork for a solid financial foundation for you and your family.

My advice if you feel that you're a little over your head financially is create you own personal financial statement. A statement, done the right way, acts as financial roadmap; guiding you from where you are now to where we want to be tomorrow. A personal financial statement can also provide fixed points of reference when measuring progress over a period of time. They also help you make smart decisions about financial matters.

Here is how you can create you own personal financial report quickly, easily, and most important, correctly:

  • The first thing you need to do is find the type of financial report which will be the easiest for you to maintain on a monthly basis and for this I recommend Microsoft Office. Their programs make it quite simple to use. You can even find some pre-formed financial reports and monthly ledgers at most of the leading office supply stores.

  • Organize all of your monthly bills together and then and separate them into categories for housing, utilities, medical expenses, school loans, and car payments. There should also be a separate category put together for things like dining out and other miscellaneous expenses.

  • Now that you have your entire monthly expenses organized, begin to enter them into your personal financial report by whether or not they are tax deductible. Also make sure it contains payments you make on both an annual or semi-annual basis, like insurance. This is done by dividing the annual payment into twelve equal installments.

  • Gather all of your sources of incomes such as pay stubs from work, pensions, retirement income, rentals, child support, etc., and add them all together. Simply divide your payout by twelve, if you receive an annual payout, for determining what your monthly income would be.

  • Once again, you're working in the financial report. In the appropriate space enter you total income, the net amount from your paycheck. Your net amount would be the amount you take home after all the taxes have been deducted.

  • The total amount of all of your monthly expenses should next be added together. Once you have that number, enter that into the financial report.

  • Subtract the number you get as your total monthly expenses from the total monthly income you figured out earlier. That amount is your monthly cash flow which could then be saved or used for extras expenses.

  • Keep the financial report up to date every month by choosing at least one day a month for updating.

Personal Finance Worries - Debt

It may not be surprising to know that the $84,454 is the average household's personal debt in the United States. Even though you may have more or less than the statistical average, it may be comforting to know that you regardless of your financial situation can get out of debt before your debt goes further.

Pinpoint your spending habits to guide to help you realize what has damaged your personal finance. For many people it is simple just spending too much money, for others it might a combination of bad time, student loans, etc. Whatever your current financial situation you must be able to stop doing wrong before you can start healing your credit and finances. A few examples are…

Spending to much Money on Entertainment

Spending to much than your making

Cable Internet/TV

Eating out

“If you have to use your credit card you probably can’t afford it”. Credit Cards are some of the healthiest businesses in American earning billions of dollars in revenue yearly. Why? People spend too much money and get in debt to quickly in their youth. First identify if you are on of these persons. Do you have more than two credit cards? How often do you use your credit card? What is your interest rate? How much do you own on your credit cards? Do you pay your credit card off with another credit card?

Please realize that the last question, paying off your credit card is an absolute no-no. You are basically paying off one debt for an even bigger one. Most people have a lot more than two credit cards, but why? You can only use one at a time? Or are you buying more than you can actually afford? The key to get out of debt is to cut your spending and save 10% of your take home pay, which you use to pay off your debts.

Get out of Debt

In order to be financial free of debt you need to stop spending and you need to get lower interest rates. You need to finance your debt into a debt consolidation loan, or refinance your home loan. This is the normal situation for most of us; however loan options will differ on individuals. Say you’re paying 15% interest rate on your credit card, which is low for most. Lets also that you have the average $8,000 in credit card debt (National Average). Lets also say you have an additional $20,000 in student loans, personal loans, etc at a rate of 5% annually.(Not including mortgage, or car loans). If you were to get a debt consolidation loan, which offers you a loan to pay back your current debts normally at a lower interest rate you would be saving money in interest payments.

Accelerating your Finances

Now to really get out of debt, you need to apply the first rule. Cut 10% of your take spending right off the top. Lets say you take home $1,800/Month (after taxes, etc). Most would be going to see movies, going on dates, eating out, buying clothes. Well if you can manage your personal finance and save that extra $180/Month, and you put that toward your debt consolidation loan. You will be financially free two-to- three times faster, and have saved thousands in interest payments than if you just paid of the debt consolidation loan minimum payment.

What is the Definition of Personal Finance - Budgeting

If you find yourself asking where to begin with learning proper finance, start with the definition of personal finance, budgeting. Why the definition of personal finance is budgeting we will outline in the following article, because truly there is no more important lesson as to what proper financial management entails, and what will most directly contribute to your success with your money.

Proper Budgeting is Personal Finance Mastery

There is no need to look beyond budgeting when beginning your journey towards personal finance mastery. Budgeting can be a scary prospect when you have not done so for a long time, the money tale told by your expenses and income can paint a poor picture. But whether you are a millionaire with investments, countless loans, mortgages and stock holdings, or an honest hardworking fellow just beginning your financial journey, budgeting is the key to continued success with your money.

Proper personal finance budgeting allows you to account for what monies you have coming in and what monies you have flowing out of your accounts. Mastery of your finances, no matter your level of income is a matter of using this information to make decisions that increase the money you have coming in each month, and decrease the flow of cash you have leaving your possession. If you choose to achieve this through additional investments, decreasing interest rates with consolidation loans or a job promotion the basics of personal finance budgeting remains the same.

Proper managing of one's debt, income and expenses is the soul of managing your money and that is why the definition of personal finance is budgeting. There is no need to get more complicated than this, with your credit cards, payday loans, investments and stock options, you will find yourself on a sound financial footing if you keep a detailed budget, follow your money, and ensure that you spend less than you earn each and every month.

To properly budget your personal finances you simply add up your sources of income, account for every penny that you have flowing to you each month, and track every expense. I am not concerned with the exact system you employ as long as you are detailed and know how your money is flowing. Track your loans, and if you have bad credit lenders, know how much you are spending in interest. Track your credit cards and what amount of your payments applies to principle and what cash goes towards interest. Make knowing your finances your business and when you have an accurate picture of the flow of your money, then work to improve your finances.

Most mistakes of personal finance are made because honest, hardworking people have an unclear, or foggy idea of how their money is spent from month to month. With a little attention to the details of your cash flow you will find that there are countless ways to save additional money, and increase your income. Keep a focus on the basics of personal finance and never forget that the definition of personal finance is budgeting. You too can start making a profit today.

Personal Finance Advice For Life

The airwaves are filled with personal finance advice, advocating countless products, investments and disciplines for creating wealth and financial largesse in your life. With all the advice available regarding your finances it is easy to get lost and lose focus on the simple principles that if applied, have been tested to create wealth in your life.

Any sound personal finance advice plan should begin with the most important rule of money, and the one we often find so hard to find the discipline to keep. To create excess money in your life, one must first learn to spend less money than earned from month to month. This is an inviolable rule of personal finance, and I recommend you breaking it at your financial peril. Your credit, bank statements and retirement income will reflect directly how well you hold to this principle, so my advice is to without fail spend less money than you make.

Personal finance advice is filled with such maxims, but how do we follow this advice. If you do not already find yourself spending less money than you make, work towards this goal. Cut expenses and bills where you can, and seriously evaluate what spending habits you have that are need vs. want items. With a cold assessment of one's finances, there never fails to be a series of costs that can be cut in the name of achieving this goal. Take my advice, do whatever it takes to spend less money than you make.

Successful money management has its rewards too, and is not all about just cutting the pleasures of life that can be purchased with ready capital and financial success. In following with this precept, the next piece of personal finance advice is to increase how much money you bring in from month to month. It sounds like basic financial advice, yet how many do you know in your own life that do not actively put focus and energy into increasing their monthly income.

These two essential pieces of personal finance advice should be applied at all times to your life. Always maintain a focus on finding ways to keep your spending below what you make, and a dedication to pursuing methods of adding more value to others in order to increase the money you are capable of bringing in each month.

The difference in savings and increase will surprise you. Do not get lost in the shuffle of personal finance advice, hold to these essential principles and build the common sense money habits that will create wealth in your life today.

Personal Finance Tips For You by Nocita Carter

Personal Finance Tips for You includes twenty-four topics covering an array of areas. The author states in the introduction "it is important to know as much as you can about managing your personal finances in these economic times." Some of the areas covered are credit card traps, keeping on track to pay your bills, handling your checkbook, the price of gas, identity theft, catching up on retirement planning, what to do if you receive a lay off notice from your job, checking your credit report and talking about finances if you are planning to get married. These are just a few of the topics. There are many more.

The first topic covered is Don't Get Caught Up in The Credit Card Trap, Stop Yourself Before That Happens. This is a very important chapter for everyone to read because it is so easy for this to happen in tough economic times. The author offers several excellent tips to help anyone who has this problem. It is clearly explained why it is so important for you to pay down the credit card debt.

Another important topic covered is How Do I Keep On Track to Pay My Bills on Time. The author gives the reader some tips on creating a budget and keeping track of your income and expenditures.

How do you survive the high cost of gas? We all know, not long ago the price of gas kept soaring. The author gives us many tips on how to save money by doing some simple things like consolidating trips just to name one of the pointers. There are many tips mentioned that I never thought of myself.

How do you establish your credit if you are young and just starting out on a job? Nocita Carter tells you exactly how to go about doing this.

Do you think you can save any money by just saving your change? This is one of the tips made by the author. I can personally vouch for this one because each day when I purchase an item, I take the change and add it to an old coffee can. After a few months, it gets quite full. I am always surprised by the amount of money I saved from my loose change.

I could go on and on with each chapter because there are so many good points in this book but I think you get the message and would get more out of Personal Finance Tips for You if you purchase it and read it yourself.

There are several aspects of this book that I really liked. It is written in language that is very easy to understand. It is not like some of the other books on finance that require you to have a dictionary by your side as you read. The book is very organized. Each chapter starts with an introduction to explain the topic. Once that is done, the author lists several tips to help the reader accomplish these tasks. Nocita Carter has written this book in a manner that makes the reader feel like they have a personal finance expert right there beside them. Personal Finance Tips For You is recommended for any age. It will be a valuable tool for younger people who are starting their first job. On the other hand, one is never too old to find something they did not know in this book. After reading this book, I learned quite a few tips to help me with my finances. You will find this an excellent resource guide to keep by your side at all times.

Finance Your Holidays With Personal Loans

What about relaxing for some days in a quite calm and exotic location? Well, it’s really a great idea. But, many people drop their holiday plans just for the want of adequate funds. In the current UK financial market, you have an ample opportunity to finance your visit to any place in the world. The two most important places where Brits like to go are Thailand and Spain.

A good thing about personal loans is that they do not impose heavy financial burden on you. The rate of interest is comparatively lower than credit cards. If you are visiting abroad, you can save money by taking out personal loans and avoiding the use of your credit cards. The credit card companies not only charge a high interest rate but also charge you fees for using the cards abroad.

Your credit score is an indicator of your future financial behavior. So, lenders take it into account when sanctioning any loan to you. A perfect credit history can get you a loan at low rate of interest. But, if you are seeking bad credit loans you must be prepared to shell out some extra interest.

People who have had a bad credit history are not provided regular personal loans by the lenders. They are put in a separate category of bad credit holders and such people opt for bad credit loans.

Personal loans are available in the UK loan market at interest rates that starts from as low as 6.5 per cent. Without putting your home as collateral, you can get up to £25,000 from a lender. Personal loans are available online and you can easily apply for such loans. The rate of interest is a major factor in deciding for personal loans. Borrowers want a loan that is less taxing on their financial resources.

The Importance of Learning About Personal Finance

There are a number of different reasons as to why a person should learn about personal finance, but it is perhaps understandable that most people can not see these reasons for themselves. Personal finance is a difficult topic to learn about and for that reason a person just naturally tends to shy away from it, making excuses in an attempt to avoid having to learn about it. Well, personal finance is extremely important and here are some reasons why.

Money Flow

If you understand personal finance, then you will understand your money flow a lot better. There are a number of people that muddle through life paying their bills and their mortgage payment with the money that they have and then spending the rest of it or maybe letting it sit in their bank account. These are people that have no idea how personal finance works, so even if they end up making the right decisions they are doing it through luck.

While there is nothing inherently wrong with this particular approach, don't you think that you would feel much better if you knew exactly what was going on with your money flow? The old saying is that knowledge is power and if you know about your money flow, you arguably have the most important individual power that exists in the world today.

Uncertainty and Fear

Human beings as a species have an irrational fear of uncertainty. In this respect, we are no different from any of the other mammalian species walking the planet, because all of them have been conditioned through thousands of generations of being eaten and killed to be afraid of what they don't know. Uncertainty and fear therefore go hand in hand and when they do this in relation to something as important to your basic survival as money, the paralyzing effect that fear can have on you is something that is not even pleasant to think about.

Compare this situation however to a situation where somebody knows about how their money flow works and understands their entire personal finance situation. This person is not a person that is likely to be afraid, since there is no uncertainty involved with their financial situation. It is a lot easier to be afraid when you have no idea where your money is coming from and where it is going.

Utilization

If you truly understand personal finance, then another thing that you definitely should understand is utilization. A person that does not understand or appreciate personal finance is a person that is unlikely to save a lot of money, instead spending whatever they happen to have left after monthly expenses on entertainment and impulse purchasing. While there is nothing wrong with being a consumer on this level, it is something that might hamper you later on in life when your income begins to dry up and you realize you have no prospects on the horizon.

If the person does not spend a lot and does not understand personal finance, the same thing could happen. While the money in your bank account is available to you instead of having been spent on something impulsive, it is still not being utilized to its fullest extent.

Only a person with an understanding of personal finance would know that money being saved should at the very minimum be placed in a high interest savings account and later on should also probably be invested in things that yield a much higher interest rate. This difference in understanding and ultimately in utilization comes specifically from an understanding in personal finance.

A Guide to Personal Finance Methods

There is a lot that can be learnt on the subject of personal finance, which is the stamina of the commerce industry today. Consumers will need to know numerous topics in finance if they are to uphold a good grip on their finance. There are a few guidelines to help guarantee such achievement.

First and foremost, proper personal finance is only observed with proper budgeting. It is possible for consumers to get their finances back on track but only with the help of a well planned budget. Outlining expenditures, payments, and outlining savings is considered standard in maintaining a healthy relationship with creditors and lending facilities. If budgeting skills are present, hiring a financial adviser to do so is a viable option that should be sought out.

Out of all the components in a personal finance plan, the savings aspect can be a tough one indeed. Saving up money sounds easy on paper, but the glitz and glamor of products often wane the motivation of consumers, who give in to new expenses for the sake of new and intriguing items. In any case, saving accounts are brilliant to have for a rainy day, they can also be very helpful for avoiding loans in general.

For those who can keep a savings account, they are probably responsible enough to also gain benefit form their insurance, social security, and retirement plans. Such plans are also neglected, as they take careful planning in order to get the most benefit from. Gaining help from an accountant or financial assistant will make the process easier- and is recommended so as to keep any mistakes from being apparent in such important plans.

No matter what part of the world you live in credit becomes a part of everyone's life, even for people who don't have personal finance. It's near impossible to avoid a loan throughout one's life. This is made apparent when items such as houses and cars must be obtained- which are commonly expensive enough to warrant the need for a loan. It is important to be clever when it comes to obtaining credit as it is accountable for putting copious amounts of people in debt from which they cannot escape. While consumers won't necessarily have to obtain professional education on the matter, some form of education should take place so one can avoid the finer points of dangerous credit decisions.

As a last note of importance, consumers should keep in mind that personal finance is mostly about planning for the future. Without a proper plan for the future, consumers will be in danger of debts that they will soon regret. Getting help from a financial advisor can help consumers plan ahead of time. This doesn't need to be grueling it can actually be fairly reasonable in such cases. Even better is the fact that financial professionals can plan a budget for years at a time- meaning revisiting them isn't an issue.

Final Thoughts

Debt doesn't have to be part of one's life. Consumers who have mounting debts will undoubtedly agree that planning ahead should not be ignored. There are huge benefits from finding help in budgeting, consumers be more aware of the actions involved. A consumer doesn't have to be in debt for decades on end- or at all, for that matter. The key to accomplishing financial success is planning, as well as educating oneself on the associated topics.

The 3 Best Personal Finance Games For Kids

They say that the best time to learn is when you're young and you can teach your kids about personal finance today in a fun and educational manner. The best thing is that kids are always asking you for games to play to keep them entertained and there's nothing better than learning while having fun. This article gives a rundown of the 3 best games kids can play to learn about personal finance.

1. Monopoly - a legendary and highly educational board games. As adults we probably played this game ourselves in our younger days and had heaps of fun. The money lessons from this game are still relevant today. Kids are forced to make decisions as to whether to buy or sell property and then as their financial situation changes, make further decisions. We, as adults, make financial decisions everyday and so it's great that kids get exposed to that early.

2. Game of Life - a more modern game, yet still very educational. If you haven't heard about the game, it explores the decisions we make and the paths we take in life. Eventually, the amount of money that we earn gets affected and you learn how to manage this. The closest thing to a real life game.

3. Cash Flow For Kids - invented by financial expert and motivational speaker, Robert Kiyosaki, it is probably the first game ever invented with the goal of making children more financially literate. It introduces kids to the concept of assets and liabilities as well as passive income. Probably the best game for kids out there today.

Whatever you decide to do, you must try to financially educate your kids from a young age. You may use other means with which to do this, but there's probably nothing more exciting than personal finance games for your kids.
